Roads and Paths

Many times when I turn back from a trip I prefer not to go from the highway but take the provincial road where I am given the opportunity to see the beauties and the paradoxes of the Greek countryside. I go slow and often stop at the edge of the road when I see something that will catch my attention and try to photograph it. Sometimes I go to nodes that lead to various provincial towns and villages and act in the same way.

The landscapes and scenes that you encounter on these routes alternate instantly as you drive and the pictures pass through your eyes almost at movie film speed. The successive stops you have to do when you want to capture something that catches your attention can be tedious and eventually time consuming. Sometimes the photographic result does not satisfy you and you say that I have been wrongly lost my time by making so many stops.

However the feeling of creating those moments and the fact that a simple ride or return from a trip can evolve into a creative photographic process, it is ultimately compensating you. (Text and photos by Makis Makris).
