βalkan Urban League w/o Borders

The Bulb Collective has been founded in January 2015 by Michail after an Open Day held in Bucharest. Since 2015 the collective has widen its geographical scope and it presently consists of photographers from 6 countries in the Balkans.

The collective consists of photographers active in urban (and rural) photography with an expressive shift to include highly aesthetic and poetic images in their assignments.

They share the same vision but not the same perspective which gives the necessary "polyphony" in their extremely ambitious endeavour to cover all the aspects of the Balkan neorealism.

Their visual signatures aspire to create iconic images and to be the best in metamorphosing and interpreting all aspects of life in this highly contradictory and fascinating part of the world.

The idea of this series started from a small investment in autumn 2010, when I bought my Canon Prima AS-1 from a flea market in Hungary.

That time I used to shot almost exclusively on film, so I loaded my new camera with a roll and next day we checked out the spa feeling together. The set up was perfect, you know, when you see a middle aged guy with a small plastic toy camera accompanied by a beautiful girl (my wife), no one was disturbed or suspicious about my activity.

The thermal bath in the history, even before Christ represented a different world for society. During the time it was an information point, a business club or a rudimentary social media and community place.

You have to expose yourself in a place with a lot of taboos. After church this is the place most filled with hopes, you can see a serious mass of people, who are dreaming to leave the building healed without pain, scars or other affections. (Photos and Text: Laszlo-Tibor Olah)
